Carrara Stadium

Located on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, Carrara Stadium is a sports venue primarily used to host Australian rules football matches. The venue serves as the home field to the Gold Coast Suns of the Australian Football League.

Architects at Populous needed a semi-transparent material for various locations throughout the stadium, including above food and beverage concession areas and restrooms within the corridors. Populous also wanted to install the same material behind the windows that line the private suites.

Architects chose 3/16” aluminum Fabricoil® in a Brightened finish, attaching the metal mesh fabric to Cascade’s durable and operable Steel Secura Track.

Cascade’s Brightened finish maintains the aluminum metal mesh’s silvery white finish, a neutral tone that allows for an excellent interplay between metal and light. Overhead lights give the Fabricoil panels above the concession counters an appearance that shifts depending on a guest’s point of view. From certain angles, the mesh appears to be green in color. From other perspectives, the installation displays more of a copper tone.

Fabricoil also provides a layer of privacy for the oversized windows built into the walls of the suites. The metal mesh allows for views and light to pass into the spaces. However, Fabricoil still provides the desired level of privacy for spectators in the suites while maintaining the inherent openness of the window walls.
