Club Sugar

Club Sugar, a 3,000-square-foot nightclub located in Santa Monica, CA, is a popular venue for locals to enjoy cocktails, dance, and unwind. The club’s designers drew inspiration from an eclectic menu of interior materials, making it one of the city’s most diverse attractions.

Described by the architects as intentionally constructed to “intensify the looking at and meeting of people – to both reinforce and poke fun at the inherent narcissistic and voyeuristic behavior,” Club Sugar features an array of semi-transparent and reflective materials installed to add life to the existing brick and wood structure.

Of those materials were 3/32” stainless steel Fabricoil® curtains mounted to an operable track and secured with Cascade’s Hook attachments. In addition to enhancing the club’s interior aesthetic, the mesh curtains sculpt the open space to clearly delineate where the dance floor ends and the bar space begins.

Fabricoil complements the polycarbonate “tunnel,” and together, they serve as the dance floor’s boundary. For Club Sugar, the mesh curtains were designed and installed to enhance the visual and physical texture of the space.

In-ground floor lights installed just below the mesh curtains add a gradated appearance to their surface. When Fabricoil interacts with light, the material appears to have more depth and substance. This allows designers to experiment with a variety of looks by adjusting the brightness, color, or position of the light source relative to the arrangement of the mesh.

Stainless steel Fabricoil also makes end-of-night clean up and daily maintenance a breeze. The durable metal mesh is easy to clean and will not rust — the ideal material to keep up with the energetic crowds at Club Sugar.
